About Jack Heald

Hi, I’m Jack Heald. According to one friend, I am “an enigma inside a black box crossed with a flibbertygib with a healthy dose of rage-against-the-machine-howlin’wolf.”

I’ll take that.

I’m an author, copywriter, singer-songwriter, storyteller, and the creator of Cult Your Brand.

I grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Music Composition.

Corporate recruiters weren’t impressed, so I got busy learning more commercially marketable skills.

Thus began an eclectic career that included stints as a telephone technician, house painter, computer salesman, chauffeur, musician, software developer, project manager, futures trader, systems analyst, webmaster, business process consultant, teacher, author and stage actor.

I was the 11th employee at Dell Computer but left too soon to get rich. I taught myself to program, started and built a software company and eventually sold it to a competitor.

While at JDA Software, I ran software implementations for some of the biggest retailers in the US and Europe. My road-warrior lifestyle cost me my health, so I quit JDA and taught myself to day trade stocks and commodities.

I discovered that new traders need a lot of help, so I wrote and published the definitive guide for beginning traders: Buy High, Sell Low – Lessons and Warning for Beginning Traders.

The stock market crash of 2008 alarmed me, and the flash crash of 2010 convinced me that there had to be better way to make a living. So I turned my back on day trading and returned at last to my first love: writing.

Writing led to copywriting, which led to studying the science of persuasion. And that led to the development of Cult Your Brand.

I married young, raised four brilliant, beautiful children, survived a nasty divorce and lived to tell about it. I’m an accomplished musician, history enthusiast, recovering amateur economist, promiscuous reader and passionate learner. I enjoy the writings of C.S. Lewis, P.G. Wodehouse, Winston Churchill, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. (Yes, they’re all British.)

I love loud motorcycles, Black Adder, single-malt scotch, expensive cigars, hot jazz, gritty blues, classic rock and the extraordinary love of a very good woman.

And yes, I tend to Question Everything.

  1. Jack,
Sorry if this is not the right place to ask but I did not know how else to get in touch with you.

I had heard somewhere that you use/have a volume profile indicator for Tradestation. I have been looking for one. Is it something that you sell?

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

  2. Hi there-

I’m a lurker at Boarsheadtavern, and I just wanted to say what you wrote today- about knowing you are deeply loved by God when you are at the most rock bottom point in your life, and knowing it in your bones, your DNA, everything- that resonates with me and strikes me as the most important thing anyone can say on the subject.

I just wanted to make sure you got some feedback on that, in case the conversation continues about economics instead.

  3. Hey Jack,

Was just minding my own business today and you popped vividly to mind. Don’t ask me why because I’m not really sure. 🙂

Anyway, I typed your name into the SE and up popped your site.

I’m going to read through it as time permits and it’s great to see things are going well and that you’ve grown so much in your faith.

Loved your take on the misguided tree-hugging mindset.

    God bless,

  4. Cool website! Interesting thoughts re: Women. I’d be interested in hearing your wife’s feedback on some of your thoughts!
    Take care pal!
